All fish ponds built with stainless steel are more expensive but, offer more advantages, compared to a pond with a rubber liner that is 20 or 40 mil. thick.

Stainless steel ponds are non-corrosive and very rigid.

Stainless steel ponds are non-corrosive, rigid, and easily maintained. It can be installed almost anywhere without any worries. It helps keep the water temperature colder ,which it’s essential for the survival of trout. You can forget about fishing in a pond with a rubber liner. Imagine the damage a fishing hook could do in a pond like that, and what it would cost for repair? For proper installation of a stainless steel tank, it is better to build a foundation (concrete) then, introduce the tank inside, as you can see on the picture below. Then finish the outside concrete wall with stone or any material that you like.

General advice:

For all species of fish, it is necessary to calculate the number of fish that can be introduced into the pond, by thinking rationally to the size that they will be as adults. It takes an average one gallon of water for every inch of fish (for a pond with a good filtration). If you calculate 12 trout 8 inches long then you need at least 96 gallons of water.

It is important to regularly feed these fish because they can never find all of their food in the pond. They will also be more resistant to the winter months. However, fish can abstain from eating for a few days and live on their reserves. During the winter months trout should be fed at least 2 to 3 times per week until spring. As the weather warms up they should be fed more frequently by increasing the volume of food each week and do the opposite in the fall.

Install a pond in your garden and give life to an aquatic space, which is both relaxing and entertaining. Trout ponds suit both amateurs, and the exterior fish enthusiasts.

It’s very common, a small pond with goldfish or koi but why not a trout pond? Easy maintenance but much more enjoyable. 90% of owners of small fish ponds (goldfish/koi) only have a few months each year to enjoy it. Five years ago, I decided to build a pond for trout and I can tell you, watching the trout grow from year to year, it gives me great satisfaction. Another advantage of a trout pond, it gives you the chance to fish throughout the year .There is nothing better than seeing a child catching his first trout.

To enjoy your pond to the maximum, it is better to build the pond near the house or the garden center. People will often spend hours just relaxing by the pond enjoying the sights and sounds of the birds drinking and bathing from the pond, and of the fish swimming, along with the wildlife that visit.

An expression often heard “THE BIGGER THE BETTER” is what I recommend when it comes time to build a pond. I cannot stress this point enough. Probably the biggest regret most pond owners have is that they did not build their pond big enough. It is also important to make it adequately deep, even if you are not building a large pond. Shallow ponds tend to heat up too much in the summer months which is very harmful for aquatic life, and freeze solid in the winter. The water temperature may be maintained with floating plants such as water lilies and duckweed which will shade your pond. If completely shaded it will create little concern, particularly with algae, but your lotus and water lilies will not bloom, due to the lack of sunlight. Preferably, do not position your pond under or near trees, even if the shading is minimum. In fact, come autumn, leaves may fall into the pond and therefore cause organic matter, and generally a pond in the shade require much more maintenance.
